The working group “ICT in Engineering Education”, part of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (SPEE) has organized a round table, part of CISPEE2021, to discuss the impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on Engineering Education (EE).
The goals are:
- To highlight the impact of ICT in EE, as rightfully acknowledged by Froyd, Wankat and Smith (2012) on their seminal paper published in the Volume 100 of the Proceedings of the IEEE. The paper, entitled “Five Major Shifts in 100 Years of Engineering Education”, places the influence of ICT on EE as the fifth major shift.
- To discuss the present situation derived by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to an unprecedent level on the use of ICT tools in EE.
- To share the personal views of a heterogeneous group, all involved in Engineering Education, yet with different experiences and backgrounds.
This group will discuss the impact of ICT on EE from a past, present and future perspective, by sharing their own personal experiences.
The Round Table will be moderated by Gustavo Alves, from the Polytechnic of Porto – School of Engineering (ISEP/P.Porto), who also served as past president of SPEE (2018-2020), and Inês Direito from the University College of London (UCL), UK, who is also a member of SPEE and the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI).
